A journey begins

My name is Ludovic Simo, but my journey as an artist began under the name Omis, born and raised in the heart of communist Romania. In a time where individuality was often stifled, my left-handedness made me stand out. Yet, I was forced to conform, even having my hand tied behind my back in school to write and draw with my right. But through this suppression, my creative spirit blossomed. Art became my silent rebellion, a way to express what I couldn't say out loud.

Caricature and creativity in the army

During my time in the army, I turned to caricature as a way to bring humor and light to my comrades in dark times. What started as playful sketches soon turned into meaningful tattoos, capturing the shared moments of laughter amidst the challenges we faced. The Romanian Revolution of 1989 further shaped my life, pushing me to fight for freedom both in my homeland and within myself.

Sketching the world through new eyes

Art remained my companion as I traveled abroad, seeking work to support my family. Along the way, I captured the beauty and stories of the world around me through my sketches, offering glimpses into the vibrant life I witnessed.

A new chapter in Amsterdam

Now based in Amsterdam, I have found a new well of inspiration. My art has evolved, yet it remains rooted in the resilience, humor, and life experiences that shaped me. Each piece in my shop tells a unique story—whether from my childhood under oppression or my new beginnings in a free world. Through my creations, I invite you to explore this journey and discover the beauty that can arise even from the darkest of times.
